Blackhart
Hello We have just purchased a Cadac Safari Chef 2 as we have an outside BBQ connection point. However I understand that I need to purchase some sort of regulator and gas pipe to connect it up. Can anyone assist with exactly what I need to get please? I'm sure it is a bit of a dumb question but please excuse this as it is our first caravan and have not had any experience of this. Thanks KH
Bigkev2000
You need gas rubber hose and one of these http://www. ebay. co. uk/itm/like/112021876260?lpid=122&chn=ps&adgroupid=27378760866&rlsatarget=pla-181484339346&adtype=pla&poi=&googleloc=9044929&device=t&campaignid=620865095&crdt=0&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover. ebay. com%252Frover%252F1%252F710-134428-41853-0%252F2%253Fmtid%253D1673%2526kwid%253D1%2526crlp%253D110919892746_563391%2526itemid%253D112021876260%2526targetid%253D181484339346%2526device%253Dt%2526mpre%253Dhttp%25253a%25252f%25252fwww. ebay. co. uk%25252fitm%25252flike%25252f112021876260%25253flpid%25253d122%252526chn%25253Dps%2526adtype%253Dpla%2526googleloc%253D9044929%2526poi%253D%2526campaignid%253D620865095%2526adgroupid%253D27378760866%2526rlsatarget%253Dpla-181484339346%2526gclid%253DCj0KEQjwyJi_BRDLusby7_S7z-IBEiQAwCVvn3O_KRQPoZM7tjCMOoitWu0wwPMq5x00TqCcjDYxjzoaAu278P8HAQ%2526srcrot%253D710-134428-41853-0%2526rvr_id%253D1099373929117
Rodders53
OR one of the similar items that appear via that link. .. Precise connection to the external BBQ point will vary with caravan make and model. Mine has the Bullfinch red type that plugs in, rather than the simple quick release pushfit type. Most new vans will have the adapter supplied. .. as might a second hand one, so search through drawers and lockers for it. Often seen them tied onto the caravan point itself! Good idea to fix rubber hose on with a jubilee clip, or similar. Ern
As you don't have a caravan yet it's difficult to say. There are 3 possibilities for connecting to gas depending on caravan make and your choice of use. Swift Group use the type of connection point for which you may use the connector mentioned above by Bigkev2000. Some caravans like Bailey are fitted with a completely different type of reciever and so a hose connector of a different design is needed. Some caravans have no BBQ point at all, but you may wish to get one fitted. In each case you connect a length of hose which runs across the ground to the BBQ. You have a connector for the Cadac with it. You can chose and buy a length of hose according to your choice. Some say a fairly short hose is best because of the trip hazard. If you are using an Wning you need to put your BBQ away from it because of fire risk. Some say there are rules restricting the length which I believe is none sense as there are none. The alternative method is to buy a bottle regulator and lift your spare gas bottle out of the caravan and position it near your BBQ so that you have freedom to put it where you like. Freedom to use the equipment in your garden at home too. For this you need a fairly short bit of hose - say 2M. Personally I prefer the latter because our caravan doesn't have a BBQ point and I like things to be simple and cost effective. Quote Ern

Blackhart
A large fire extinguisher would also be useful. Geoff Got one on order. I have now checked the fittings. .. This is my interpretation: the blue one screws into the Safari Chef, the red one fits into the external BBQ point. I now have to buy some flexible gas hose and a couple of small jubilee clips to fix them on with. BH

You want the one Bigkev2000 showed which will fit your Swift. Quote Ern
Blackhart
Ah! The fitting on my caravan is the 'Bulfinch' one, I seem to remember being told this. They fitted it for me. Rolling Stone
Recommended hose length ( health & safety ) is 2 metres! John. I know this is the advice - like several others I ignored it and went for a 5m length obtained from Amazon. I thought it better (and safer) to move the BBQ well away from the caravan and awning. Is anyone aware of the thinking behind the advised 2m limit? - if 5m is definitely a safety issue I will shorten mine. shipbroker
Alongside me in Norfolk was a LPG systems designer and installer who had 5 metre hose, comment was made,he agreed and said it wasn't trip hazard but fact that gas can collect into 'balls' in long coiled pipe and there is an explosion risk. ....best explanation I have had so far. ...may be others. Johnboy 550
A bloke who sells the stuff at my local caravan shop tells me that not to use more than two metres as it is a low pressure system and any longer pipe reduces the gas pressure at your barbeque

robertB
We have a cadac and I use a 3 metre length of pipe with quick release fittings both on the barbecue and the van with never any issues. The length "recommendations" only refer to the trip hazard which I balance against the van/awning going up in smoke hazard. Never heard of gas forming into balls and suspect this may have been a wind up or a bit of scaremongering
