Rear for me but can't see that it makes any difference. It ends up in the right place.

On our new van it has a very sharp turn in the awning rail at the rear which made it difficult to get it around so I'll try starting at the rear next time. On the old van it didn't matter which end we started at.

Wife says it is easier from the back so i have to take her good judgement into account always started at the back found it the best way

I always try to start at the upwind end, that way I am not working against the wind!

It depends on the lie of the land!

Now I only use a porch awning and the van door is at the rear, it makes sense to start at that end.

As my beloved and myself are of a diminutive stature (4'11 and 5'5") we find it easier from the front. Trying to get the awning vertically up and round from the back is a bit of a stretch, running it up the slope at the front and around the shallower angle at the top we find less stressful. Lots of silicone lube in the rail helps too.

'Ooer missus' seems an appropriate sign-off. ....

Front for me, the corner is less sharp so hence negotiating the bend in the rail is easier I find.

Front for the full sized awning as its got an easier curve to pull the awning through, and rear for the porch as it's near the door.

I usually give the rail a squirt with some silicon spray, the type they use on car plastic trim for the full awning.

Always from the front due to a gentler curve, easy to pull through with no bunching

Mindy, always started at the front due to the easier access and less tight curve . .. and also because our first van didn't have an entry point at the back, so have always done it from the front.

From the back and make sure the roof poles are square to the caravan,

then peg the canvas up against the caravan side. Works for me.

Gosh, if anyone uninitiated stumbled across this thread they might wonder what was being discussed! :o

Might just be my mind though

Er, front for me, as stated, more of a gentle slope.

From the front - the caravan helps to take the weight of the awning. I've read loads of complaints about the Kampa Air Ace being too heavy but its fine as long as you start at the front. Husband pulls it along the rail while I feed it in at the bottom :D
