A Little Questionette

Up for ideas here folks.

We occasionally leave our labrador in the van for an hour or two in the evenings as she is very happy to curl up on her bed and sleep, in fact she often doesn't acknowledge us when we get back when she's in the van she's so comfy!

Anyway, moving from a Swift to a Coachman the internal door handle is much bigger in the Coachman and could potentially be opened by our labrador who like most has mastered the trick in the house. Just wondering if anyone had come up with anything that would prevent her from jumping up and opening the door from inside? Wondered about sticking a towel over it with velcro sticky pads so she can't see it.

We had the similar problem with our Elkhound. He certainly has mastered the lever handle on any door, we now leave the rear boxer cushion from the front seating area, standing on end and leaning diagonally across the door way.

This has kept him n the meantime but we mainly have the cages in the awning or car, that's his main home whilst on tour.

Can't you just lock the door when you go out ?

I think that justs lifts the inside handle up so the mutt could again flick it down again.

Unless otherwise stated all posts are my personal opinion

Correct the mutt just turns the handle down again, so you need the protect the handle from the mutt from doing so.

I haven't owned a dog for years now but would it be possible to attaché a harness which would allow her freedom of movement and long enough (if the door was opened) to allow her out into the awning safely.

Just a thought.

Reminds me of the joke about the dog who would chase anyone on a bike.

We don't have a dog but share the same problem for stopping our 2 year old daughter from escaping (for clarity - this is whilst we are in with her - we don't leave her inside on her own!). As yet, unsolved.

It's always the simple ideas. Like it and shall give this a go - no messing with velcro etc just move the cushion on the way out then lob it out of the way on the way back in :)
