Towcar summary

What's good?

Almost everything, the comfort, the smoothness, pulls like a train, put your foot to the floor and it just keeps on going. It really is impressive, everything you would expect of a luxury car. Comfortable leather seats, plenty of storage - the boot is enormous and to top it all you get 7 seats.

What's bad?

Fuel obviously 34 motorway, 27 town solo, 27 on motorway with van on the back.
The turning circle is a bit big but you are driving a tank.

Would you recommend it?

Towing performance *****

How well does it tow?

Like a dream, big engined automatic so it pulls smoothly even on big hills. Very stable. 700 mile run through Scotland was a breeze.
Tugs a Swift Challenger 570 at 1600 kg

Solo performance *****

What's it like without the caravan?

Its a luxury 4x4 and drives like one.

Reliability *****

Anything to look out for?

Get a good spec, theres lots of basic models out there, things like heated seats, xenon bendy headlights and bluetooth are all extra so check what its got.
UPDATE: After 2 years I wish I'd had the DAB radio fitted and electric drivers seat adjustment for when the wife has left 2 inches of legroom between the steering wheel.

Practicality *****

Is it easy to live with?

Yes, well laid out, steering wheel controls, plenty of space, extremely versatile. I used to love my X-trail but this is something else.
UPDATE: 2 years later and the only cost has been front tyres at 14K. Wife has decided it has to go due to its size, parking can be difficult at times. I'm going to miss it I still love it as much now as the first day I drove it home. Long distance cruises are effortless and that boot just swallows everything plus the dogs.

Buying experience *****

Did you buy it new or used?

Where did you buy it?

Franchised dealer

What was the seller like?

Really good (well he would be, he wanted to sell a car). Timed it just right and got extra spec and a top discount.
